Gyula Bocz

Spiral

1971-73.

In the autumn of 1971 Bocz won the III. National Biennale of Small Sculpture first prize Flower III. which was a major breakthrough: it was not only his recognition, but also that of self-taught, non-figurative art. A III. It was at a friendly ceremony following the award ceremony of the Biennale of Small Sculpture that Bocz "invented" the idea of his Spiral, a whirlwind of ascension, which eclipsed Life, sculpted from 1969. Bocz carved the sculpture purely by hand, without the modern power machines and tools then unavailable in the sculpture workshop.

For the Kunsthalle's 2017 exhibition One/age, the Spiral was transported from the Nagyharsány sculpture park to the museum, and became the symbol of the exhibition. Back to the Nagyharsányi Sculpture Park 2020. broken in two at the end of March, restored by Balázs Szemerey-Kiss in the summer of 2020.
